QUALITy relationships

We, in Mishawaka value the many relationships we have enjoyed over the years. Relationships with safety and rescue personnel, educational institutions, churches, businesses, social organizations, individuals, and even cities on the other side of the globe. We'll highlight some of these relationships over the coming months.

SHIROJIRI NIWA

Welcome to the world of Mishawaka's Sister City, Shiojiri, Japan! It's a world of traditional oriental virtues, of grace and serenity. This garden is a world in microcosm. Its features often are carefully designed replicas of natural waterfalls, beaches and islands—sometimes with few or no plantings, sometimes simply raked sand gardens.

Rather than the typical garden filled with striking statuary, showy plants and flowers, the Japanese garden is a monochromatic understatement, in which the viewer is permitted the thrill of personal interpretation and discovery. The 1.3 acre Chisen-kaiyushiki, or "strolling garden" is one in which constantly unfolding scenes entice the visitor to move further and further along the paths.
