The Mishawaka Police Department's Investigations Bureau consists of seventeen detectives who are assigned to both general and specialized investigations. The Investigations Bureau investigates crimes that range from petty theft and criminal mischief to bank robbery and aggravated battery.
The Bureau also has officers who are assigned to St. Joseph County Metro Homicide (METRO), St. Joseph County Family Violence (FVU) and Special Victims units (SVU), the High Tech Crime Unit, the ATF Guns and Gangs Task Force, and Metro Special Operations (Narcotics).
Annually, the Bureau reviews over 8,000 cases. Over half of those cases are either assigned to Investigations Bureau detectives or other units for follow-up investigation, or are filed directly with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office.
