New Community Development Director

Mayor Dave Wood announces that Dave Thomas has been promoted to Community Development Director for the City of Mishawaka. Dave was hired by the City as Community Development Program Coordinator in November of 2010. Since then, he was promoted to NSP Grant Coordinator in June of 2011 before receiving his current promotion to Director on April 2, 2012.

This position is appointed by the City’s Redevelopment Commission and oversees the Community Development efforts of the City of Mishawaka. Dave will be responsible for working with and making recommendations to the Redevelopment Commission, Board of Public Works and Safety, Common Council and the Mayor. He will also be responsible for executing, overseeing and completing many redevelopment projects in the City such as the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and special projects.

Dave is a graduate of Mishawaka High School and a life-long Mishawaka Resident and attended Glen Oaks College in Centerville, MI, as well as Indiana University in South Bend. Dave acknowledged, “I look forward to working with Mayor Wood and the City of Mishawaka in their continuing efforts to provide all citizens with the opportunity for Fair, affordable Housing. I share the Mayor’s commitment to revitalize aging neighborhoods with the First Time Homebuyers Program, Neighborhood Stabilization Program and working with community partners such as Habitat for Humanity.”

Mayor Wood comments, “Dave’s experience and passion for our community will serve him and our citizens well in his new role. The great attitude and dedication he has shown in his previous positions were a major factor when considering him for the Director’s position.
