REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA

BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY/UTILITY BOARD

June 9, 2009

 

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Gary West at 10:04 a.m.  All members were present except Mr. Watson.  Mr. Prince moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 2, 2009, and accept them as circulated.  Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

 

Bid Openings:

There were no bid openings.

 

Mayor Comments:

Mayor Rea was not available for today’s Board meeting.

 

Department Head Reports:

City Planner Ken Prince requested the Board’s approval to receive quotes for the demolition and clearance of the former Parks Department building located at 1122 Lincolnway West with quotes to be opened on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, and moved for approval of same.  Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

 

Engineering Director Gary West presented a professional services agreement with Lawson-Fisher Associates to provide part-time construction engineering administration and observation services during the construction of the Holy Cross Parkway Lift Station Force Main Phase IIC and IID projects for an amount not to exceed $92,300.00 and moved for approval of same.  Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

 

Mr. West requested the Board’s approval to award the contract for the Front Street Trunk Sewer and Tail Works to River Crossing No. 2 project to Herman & Goetz Underground Services, the most responsive bidder, for the base bid of $556,171.55 and moved for the Board’s approval.  Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

 

Approval of Claims:

There were no claims to approve.

 

New Business:

A request to close the 500 block of West Ninth Street (between West and Wells) Saturday, July 4, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for a neighborhood block party was taken under advisement.

 

Old Business:

A request to close the 1200 block of East Third Street between Mason and Campbell on Saturday July 4, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for a block party was continued under advisement.

 

A request from Mr. Paul Gurson of Yakety-Yak Café to block Center Street between Fourth Street and the alley to the south for a “Summer Bash 2009 Street Party” at 701 W. Fourth Street on Saturday, June 27, 2009 between the hours of 2:00 pm and 10:00 pm was continued under advisement.

There were no public comments.

 

Unfinished Business:

There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:13 a.m.
