REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA

BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY/UTILITY BOARD

October 27, 2009

 

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Gary West at 10:04 a.m.  All members were present.  Mr. Prince moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 20, 2009, and accept them as circulated.  Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

 

Quote Openings:

Quotes were opened for a Battery Powered Mini-Push Camera System for the Sewer Maintenance Department and are summarized below:

Mr. West said the quotes would be taken under advisement by the Sewer Maintenance Department.

 

Mr. West expressed his appreciation for everyone’s notes of support, prayers, and attendance at his mother’s funeral. 

 

Mayor’s Comments:

Mayor Rea reminded everyone that Saturday was Halloween and to watch out for kids trick or treating and be safe.  This year’s hours are from 5-7 p.m.

 

The Mayor also said a brief staff meeting would follow today’s Board meeting.

 

Department Head Reports:

City Planner Ken Prince presented a Notice of Recognition of Encroachment from Pat Oliva for 327 S. Union Street, formerly Sliders, to install a solid wood fence between the dead end street and the railroad tracks and moved for its approval.  Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

 

Engineering Director Gary West presented an Escrow Agreement with First Source Bank and Rieth-Riley for the Edison Lakes Parkway Whitetopping Project and moved for its approval.  Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

 

Approval of Claims:

There were no claims to approve.

 

Public Hearing:

A Hearing for a Transient Merchants License for Brown’s Tree Farms was held for the purpose of selling Christmas trees at the K-Mart Plaza located at 420 W. McKinley Avenue from November 23 through December 23, 2009.  No one from Brown’s Tree Farms was present, and no one spoke against the license.  Mr. Prince moved that the Board approve the Transient Merchants License for November 23 through December 23, 2009 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. at 420 W. McKinley Avenue for Brown’s Tree Farms.  Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

 

 

New Business:

A Transient Merchants License Hearing was scheduled for T. C. Tree Farms on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, to sell Christmas trees at 4917 Grape Road.

 

A Hearing for a Second Hand Store License was scheduled for Disc Replay, 5916 Grape Road on Tuesday, November 10, 2009.

There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
