REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY/UTILITY BOARD
January 28, 2014

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Gary West at 10:00 a.m. All members were present. Mr. Prince moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of January 21, 2014, and accept them as circulated. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Bid Openings:
There were no bid openings.

Mayor’s Comments:
Mayor Wood said once again, Mishawaka is the only local government open and ready to serve its citizens during this latest round of severe weather.

Department Head Reports:
Police Chief Ken Witkowski requested the Board accept the voluntary resignation of Sgt. Wesley Thompson from the Mishawaka Police Department effective February 3, 2014. Chief Witkowski said Sgt. Thompson has accepted a position in Peoria, AZ, to be closer to family. Mr. Prince moved to approve as presented. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Sewer Maintenance Department Manager Tom Dolly presented a list of various obsolete items of equipment and requested they be declared surplus so they may be sold at the upcoming City auction or scrapped as deemed necessary. Mr. Watson moved to approve as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Approval of Claims:
There were no claims to approve.

New Business:
A request for renewal of Secondhand Store License has been received from Buzz’s Used Furniture, 225 N. Main Street. Mr. West moved to approve as presented. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Old Business:
Hearing regarding the charges preferred against Firefighter Eric Hazen, set for Tuesday February 18, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.

A request for Notice of Recognition of Encroachment submitted by Bethel College for installation of a directional sign on Lowell Avenue continued under advisement.

Unfinished Business:
There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
