REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY/UTILITY BOARD
October 20, 2015

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Gary West at 10:02 a.m. All members were present except Mr. Prince. Mr. Watson moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 20, 2015, and accept them as circulated. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

Bid Openings:
There were no bid openings.

Mayor’s Comments:
Mayor Wood announced a staff meeting would follow today’s Board meeting.

Department Head Reports:
Engineering Director Gary West requested the Board award the contract for Trinity Place Realignment, Phase II, to R & R Excavating, Inc., Mishawaka, the lowest most responsive and responsible quoter, in the amount of $81,458.00, and moved for its approval. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Mr. West presented Professional Service Agreement Supplemental No. 1 from Lawson-Fisher Associates for Linden Area Sewer Improvement Study for an increase of $159,500.00 for a new not-to-exceed amount of $507,100.00, and moved for its approval. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Approval of Claims:
City Controller Rebecca Miller requested approval of twenty (20) claim dockets in the amount of $12,691,966.59. Mr. Watson moved for approval. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

Hearings:
Mr. West set a hearing date for Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. for Transient Merchants License for Brown’s Tree Farm for the sale of Christmas Trees at 420 W. McKinley Avenue.

Mr. West set a hearing date for Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. for Secondhand Store License for Kid’s Konsignment, Etc., 2324 Miracle Lane.

Mr. West presented a Warranty Deed from City of Mishawaka to City of Mishawaka Department of Redevelopment for Lot 4, Main Street Corridor, First Subdivision, and designate Mayor Wood as signatory, and moved for its approval.

A request to close the 400 block of Calhoun Street between Vine and Wilson for a neighborhood block party on Saturday, October, 31, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mr. West moved to approve subject to normal conditions of approval for public safety. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

A request to close the north/south alley between Lincolnway West and Third Street, between 109 and 113 Lincolnway West for a wedding on Saturday, September 24, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mr. Watson moved to approve subject to normal conditions of approval for public safety. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

Open Items:
A hearing for Second Hand Store License for Julie’s Used Appliances, 2302 Lincolnway West, remained under advisement.

Unfinished Business:
There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:21 a.m.
