REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY/UTILITY BOARD
November 3, 2015

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Gary West at 10:00 a.m. All members were present except Mr. Watson. Mr. West moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 27, 2015, and accept them as circulated. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Quote Opening:
One quote was received for Snow Removal at various City lots for the Redevelopment Department and is summarized below:

Mr. West said this quote will be forwarded to the Redevelopment Department for their review and consideration.

Mayor’s Comments:
Mayor Wood was not available for today’s Board meeting.

Department Head Reports:
Terry Zeller, Parks Department Superintendent, submitted a request to remove two (2) trees and stumps in the tree lawn at 507 Alabama. The trees have been analyzed and recommended for removal by the Park Department Landscaper. Mr. Prince moved to approve as presented. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

Water Division Manager Dave Majewski requested the Board authorize the receipt of bids for one (1) 2016 4-wheel drive medium duty super/extended cab utility truck to be opened November 24, 2015. Mr. Prince moved to approve as presented. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

Mr. Majewski requested the Board authorize the receipt of quotes for sodium hypochlorite/sodium bisulfite for Water and Wastewater Departments to be opened on November 24, 2015. Mr. Prince moved to approve as presented. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

Central Services Department Manager Tim Ryan presented an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Osceola authorizing the sale of a maximum of 60 tons of enhanced road salt at $79.91/ton, effective November 4, 2015 through March 31, 2015. Mr. West moved to approve as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.
Approval of Claims:
There were no claims to approve.

Public Hearing:
Mr. West opened the public hearing for a secondhand store license for Kid’s Konsignment Etc., LLC, doing business at 2324 Miracle Lane. Sharon Crabill appeared and said she gets her items from the general public and she mainly sells kids clothing, shoes, toys, books, and some furniture.

Mr. West closed the Public Hearing. Mr. Prince moved to approve the secondhand store license for Kid’s Konsignment Etc., LLC. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

A public hearing for a Transient Merchants License for Brown’s Tree Farms was held for the purpose of selling Christmas trees at 420 W. McKinley Avenue (Kmart parking lot) from November 22 through December 22, 2015. No one from Brown’s Tree Farms was present, and no one spoke against the license.

Mr. West closed the Public Hearing. Mr. Prince moved that the Board approve the Transient Merchants License for Brown’s Tree Farms for the sale of Christmas trees from November 22 through December 22, 2015 at 420 W. McKinley Avenue. Mr. West seconded; motion carried.

New Business:
Mr. West moved to approve a request from H.G. Christman to close the north/south alley east of 113 Lincolnway West intermittently between November 3 and November 13 for garage construction. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Open Items:
A hearing for Second Hand Store License for Julie’s Used Appliances, 2302 Lincolnway West, remained under advisement.

Unfinished Business:
There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:18 a.m.
