REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY/UTILITY BOARD
September 6, 2016

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Gary West at 10:01 a.m. All members were present. Mr. Prince moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of August 30, 2016, and accept them as circulated. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Bid Openings:
There were no bid openings.

Mayor’s Comments:
Mayor Wood announced a staff meeting would follow today’s Board meeting.

Department Head Reports:
Mishawaka Utilities General Manager Jim Schrader presented Utility Board Resolution 2016-05 Amending Utility Board Resolution 2015-08 and Amending the Schedule of Compensation for Certain Employees of Mishawaka Utilities, namely Water Division, Meter Installer C. Mr. Prince moved to approve as presented. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Police Chief Ken Witkowski requested the Board promote Sgt. Alex Arendt to the rank of Lieutenant, which fills the Lieutenant vacancy in the Investigative Division, Metro Homicide, to be effective September 6, 2016. Mr. Prince moved to approve as presented. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Chief Witkowski requested the Board promote Pfc. Matthew Porter to the rank of Sergeant effective September 6, 2016. Mr. Watson moved to approve as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

City Planner Ken Prince requested the Board accept quotes for construction of Hill Street Community Gardens to be opened September 27, 2016, and moved for its approval. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Engineering Director Gary West presented an Escrow Agreement for CIPP Sewer Rehabilitation 2016 Various Locations with Insituform Technologies and Lake City Bank and moved for its approval. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Approval of Claims:
There were no claims to approve.

New Business:
There was no new business.

Public Comments:
Dick Barnette asked if the sidewalks on Guam Avenue were going to be replaced. Mr. West said the City has hired a company to saw the “lifts” to even out the surface.

Unfinished Business:
There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at
10:10 a.m.
