REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY / UTILITY BOARD
July 05, 2017

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Ken Prince at 10:00 a.m. All members were present except Ms. Miller. Mr. Watson moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 27, 2017, and accept them as circulated. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Bid Opening:
There were no bid openings.

Mayor’s Comments:
Mayor Wood thanked everyone involved in making the first Independence Day Celebration a success. He said he received great feedback on the event.

Mayor Wood announced a staff meeting would follow today’s Board meeting.

Department Head Reports:
Wastewater Division Manager Karl Kopec requested the Board award the quote for Aeration Tank Railings to Tuttle, a Division of Dant Clayton Corporation, Fishers, IN, the lowest most responsive and responsible quoter, in the amount of $45,787.00. Mr. Watson moved to approve as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Ken Prince, on behalf of City Engineer/Director Chris Jamrose, requested the Board award the contract for Mill and Overlay of McKinley Avenue from Charlotte Street to 500’ east of Division Street to Walsh & Kelly, South Bend, the lowest most responsive and responsible bidder, for the base bid of $286,284.65, and moved for its approval. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Approval of Claims:
Mr. Prince on behalf of City Controller Rebecca Miller presented and moved to approve 22 (twenty-two) claim dockets dated July 5, 2017, in the amount of $8,999,127.02. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

New Business:
Mr. Prince moved to approve a request from Lykowski Construction for temporary closure of Russ Avenue, Elizabeth Street, and LaSalle Avenue for two simultaneous house moves from the northwest corner of Russ Avenue and Main Street to the southwest corner of LaSalle Avenue and Elizabeth Street on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

A request was received from the residents of Reverewood in the Woods to close a section of Bennington Drive between Dudley and Shelton on Saturday, August 5, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to hold a block party. Mr. Prince moved to approve subject to normal conditions of approval for public safety. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

A request for disabled parking space has been received from the resident 516 Hendricks Street. This request has been reviewed by the Mishawaka Police Department’s Traffic Bureau. Upon their review, the Police Department recommends this application be approved. Mr. Prince moved to approve the disabled parking requests as presented. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Unfinished Business:
There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:05 a.m.
