REGULAR MEETING OF THE MISHAWAKA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY / UTILITY BOARD
July 11, 2017

 

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety/Utility Board was called to order by President Ken Prince at 10:00 a.m. All members were present except Ms. Miller. Mr. Watson moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of July 5, 2017, and accept them as circulated. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Bid/Quote Openings:
Bids were opened for Douglas Road Improvements, Phase I, and are summarized below:

Mr. Prince said these bids would be forwarded to the Consultant for their review and evaluation.

Quotes were received for the demolition and removal of 1005 Berlin Avenue and are summarized below:

Mr. Prince said these quotes would be forwarded to the Redevelopment Department for their review and evaluation.

Mayor’s Comments:
Mayor Wood announced a staff meeting would follow today’s Board meeting.

Department Head Reports:
Fire Chief Bryon Woodward requested the Board accept the voluntary retirement of James Schuster who has served the Mishawaka Fire Department for 30 years, effective July 11, 2017; and the voluntary retirement of Wayne Ryan who has served the Mishawaka Fire Department for 33 years effective July 17, 2017. Mr. Watson moved to approve both as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Chief Woodward requested the Board accept the voluntary resignation of Adam Behnke to be effective July 16, 2017. Mr. Watson moved to approve as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Park Superintendent Phil Blasko submitted a request to remove one tree and stump in the tree lawn at 124 W. Battell Street. The tree has been analyzed and recommended for removal by the Park Department Landscaper. Mr. Watson moved to approve as presented. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

City Planner Ken Prince requested the Board approve plans and authorize the receipt of bids for Castle Manor Renovation to be opened August 1, 2017, and moved for its approval. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

Approval of Claims:
There were no claims to approve.

New Business:
A request from Villa Macri for a Waiver of the Noise Ordinance on Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22, for Italian Fest with live music at Villa Macri, Toscana Park, Granger, (no tent) from 5:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Mr. Prince moved to approve the Noise Ordinance Waiver for Italian Fest with live music ending at 11:00 p.m., and, and normal conditions of approval relative to public safety. Mr. Watson seconded; motion carried.

A request from First United Methodist Church for closure of Forest Avenue between Mishawaka Avenue and Wilson Boulevard for a car showcase during annual BBQ in the Park at Battell Park on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. (rain date Wednesday, July 26). Mr. Watson moved to approve as presented subject to normal conditions of approval including contacting impacted neighbors. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Old Business:
Mr. Watson moved to approve a request from Lykowski Construction for date change of temporary closure of Russ Avenue, Elizabeth Street, and LaSalle Avenue for two simultaneous house moves from the northwest corner of Russ Avenue and Main Street to the southwest corner of LaSalle Avenue and Elizabeth Street on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mr. Prince seconded; motion carried.

Unfinished Business:
There being no additional business brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:12 a.m.
